The 2011 Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is about to take-off !! And for the 1st time MAP will be an event in these games, it's the 54th World Championship in MAP.

The Games will be held from the 16-24 of July 2011 in the vicinity of the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro.

The organizing country of Brazil have built 3 new villages to host the approximate 6000 ! participants from 110 countries!

I arrived yesterday, July 12th, and found the new village almost complete, fresh and clean but some problems with warm water and keys to the room. They still have to work on the serving timing in the diner but at least we finally got some coffee.

Entrence to the Blue Village

Wednesday the 13th July.

Its soon 0800 and we are waiting for the competitors to start arriving to the village. Still we are looking for information and maybe later we will get some, if they can provide...
and finally the team from Sweden arrived. First some information (quick) and then breakfast and photo in the CISM-club (that is, it will become later when its finalized with computers, shops and snack-bar and other parts).

The team will take the opportunity to join the Czech team on a day of sight-seeing and tour the Copacabana beach since they are free today.

I eventually got hold of a bus and went to the Air Force University to look for the MAP organizers, and found them!!
Sat down and worked all day and most of the evening with the different people involved in the different events. Now its has started to move in the right direction - onwards to glory!! Tomorrow I will check orienteering course.

Sunday 17th of July

Day of Flying Contest.
Flight Contest Briefing and then preparation for all teams in order of competition.

The checkpoints were very hard to observe in the terrain and since the elevated landscape affected the speed, the timing was very hard.

The old saying, the one that digs a hole often falls in it himself seemed to be true tonight to. Paulo transferred the old Nordic Championship tradition that the winner is served a bottle of wine in the trophy. And it ended with yet another tradition being created, that the oldest retiring athlete will drink from a cup and hand it over to the oldest remaining athlete.

After the Closing Ceremony it is time for everyone to return home.

See you in Korea 2015 !
